The All Progressives Congress in Ondo
State has accused the Resident Electoral Commissioner of the Independent
National Electoral Commission, in the state, Mr. Segun Agbaje, of
recruiting ad hoc members of staff who were allegedly supporters of the
candidate of the Alliance for Democracy, Mr. Olusola Oke, for the
November 26 governorship election.
The APC said the newly recruited INEC ad hoc members of staff were allegedly being recruited from Lagos State.
The party, in a statement issued by its
Publicity Secretary, Mr. Abayomi Adesanya, on Sunday insisted that it
had no confidence in INEC in Ondo State.
Adesanya said, “We have it on good
authority that INEC is recruiting ad hoc (members of) staff from Ojokoro
LCDA, which was created out of the Alimosho Local Government Area in
Lagos, and we know that the elements working with some INEC officials
are closely linked to some of Olusola Oke’s supporters in Lagos and Osun
states.
“We know that ad hoc (members of) staff
are usually officials of the Federal Government’s agencies in the state,
neighbouring states and youth corps members. But we could not imagine
why Lagos State is being used for surreptitious recruitment by INEC.”
However, Agbaje, has denied the
allegation saying, the commission never recruited anybody from Lagos
State nor recruited supporters of a candidate of any political party.
He said, “It is a lie, we never
recruited anybody who are supporters of politicians. We never recruited
anybody from Lagos State as an ad hoc (member of) staff. We have said
that we are going to be fair to all in the election. We are going to do
our job professionally the way it should be done and we will ensure that
the election is free and fair.”
