Umar recently took over the command of the 114
battalion just about three weeks ago.
The Army has however denied knowledge of the
occurrence through its spokesperson Sani Usman, who
said he was unaware of Lt. Col. Umar’s death.
Meanwhile, the Defence Headquarters has dismissed
reports that ransom was paid for the release of the 21
Chibok girls freed by the Boko Haram.
The defence spokesperson Rabe Abubakar, reacting to
reports alleging that ransom was paid by the government
in exchange for the recently released of 21 of the
abducted Chibok girls, described the story as
unsubstantiated.
